Elmogus.

The inevitable doubletake when people see www.elmogus.com requires explanation.

First of all, it is *not* El mogus, so don't bother looking it up as though it were some obscure spanish reference.  It's not and there is no 'mogus' on babelfish.

When I was pregnant with my last child, lo these 14 years ago (pardon while I have a moment...14 years...gads.), anyway, while expecting, my middle child who was three at the time made the proclamation that the baby's name would be Elmogus.

No matter what we discussed, he was adamant that the baby would be Elmogus.  He talked about when Elmogus came, he talked to my belly and called the baby Elmogus.

This child was nothing if not determined.

So, as often happens, it wore on us until we were calling my belly Elmogus.  At the  hospital when I was in labor, we called it Elmogus.  After the baby came, we called him Elmogus.

Oh, the looks!  The nurses gave each other these looks like you wouldn't believe.  Finally one of them said, "So, uh, Elmogus.  Is that a family name?"  We about died laughing.

I assured her I would not label my child with such a moniker, and the look of relief that came over the faces of the three nurses in the room...it was hysterical.

However, we had become so accustomed to calling him Elmogus that we did call him that for a while.  Eventually, we began calling him by his real name, but Elmogus has always been a family 'thing', ever since.

So there you have the story of the Elmogus.
